Just Talking To Me 2026/07/05 I wrote the first draft of this poem on March 11, 2026, shortly after one of my first check ups. It turns out my stomach was telling me something.
Jesus, the only real hope for the future of Canada & the World 2026/07/01 Canada has long resisted defining the “ideal Canadian.” What if that’s the wrong question? The real question is whether Jesus has something to say to Canada today. I believe he does—not because he was Canadian, but because he is the true human, the great “I AM,” and the only real hope for Canada and the world.
Leaf Springs & Life: What a mechanic taught me about faith, cancer, & learning to live within my limits 2026/06/26 The past several weeks I’ve been a time for reflection.
The reason is that I have been processing a diagnosis of metastatic prostate cancer.
During that time I found myself reflecting on what it means to be ready, what really matters, and what God may still be calling me to do.
Those reflections eventually became this essay.
It begins with a conversation at my mechanic’s shop and ends somewhere I never expected.
“A lovely 59-year-old man” 2026/04/25 At 59, this guy looks in the mirror and sees a kid who got dumpster-dived by friends, a shy teen grunting at girls, and a college chap who mixed up prayers. While he grapples with his “lovely” label, he realizes he might just be a delightful mess of experiences—who knew?

The message is stark—real strength lies not in isolation, but in forging deep connections. Who will you risk 400 hours for to break this cycle?
The Stories That Make Us Weep 2025/11/10 Our connection to history is mediated through stories. This is the story of how I found my own, discovering that a "blend defying easy definition" in my family's past was the very thing that allowed a work of fiction to move me so deeply, and why hearing your story is just as important.
Reblogged this on The Functional Church Blog and commented:
I came across this post I wrote almost exactly 10 years ago and I realised that God’s love and God’s justice are not a dichotomy but are in fact the same thing. i think that perhaps I was confused with some modern theological positions that somehow pit justice against love. What I realise now is that justice in the Bible is not some kind of punishment for sin but is in fact freedom from oppression.
It’s an entirely different thing.
